To infinity
&beyond

I am one day away from a four-day weekend, which must be the best feeling in the world (besides the weekend itself).
Today’s NaPoWriMo prompt: K. Siva Reddy’s poem, “A Love Song Between Two Generations,” weaves together repetitions, questions, and unexpected similes with plain language. The overall effect is both intimate and emotional, producing a long-form meditation on what love is, what it means, and how it acts. Write your own poem that muses on love, but isn’t a traditional love poem in the sense of expressing love between romantic partners.
Hmmm I think I’m mostly on prompt here, though I fell into the pit of romantic writing at the end. I don’t write love poems a whole lot generally, so I had fun alchemizing heartbreak into healing in this one. I hope to keep working on this one and making it longer and better! Hope you enjoy &see you tomorrow :)
The space between
Fingertips
H e l l o
&Goodbye
At 90 years old, I will have known you
for exactly the same amount of time as
23 &I will have not known you for long
-er, a slinky stretching
but never straightening,
red arrow pointing up up
the chart. There is no going
down &so there is no sense in
want &so maybe there never was.
Ambiance, noise, mumblecore
&dissonance
Angels in the outfield
&on the head of a pin
Is there a world where/stop right there
If I hold on tighter/don’t even try it
Could we just/as we discussed —
Red arrow ticking past the time the space
between knowing and becoming
unknown. The space between
the last time I saw your face,
plus the last time I saw your
face in the daylight. The space
between night &dusk, moments
away &worlds apart. The space
between quiet coexistence &melting into
one. The space between breaking &realizing.
A meteor
&its target
A carseat,
Facing backwards,
&the highway
Standing in a crosswalk, the light
green &kissing. The space between
my apartment &your side of town,
at rush hour &then late in the night
Is there a world/The space between 6
months admiring a stranger &3 years
watching a friend/where I found you
sooner &saved us both the heartache
If I just hold on tighter/The space be
-tween feet twisted in sheets/can music
keep twinkling in the dark of this theater
&light keep playing off the chandelierdrops
Could we just/The space between thinking
the world was ending &being okay if it did/
watch the world turn green &brown &green
again?
