Hooray for cliché

Yes, this is me in my element.

Hello!

I’m back with two days worth of poems for you.

I debated sharing yesterday’s piece, which is based on a weird headline I came across in Yesterday’s Print. But I think it works well with today’s prompt, to write a poem of one-liners, an homage to the 11th of the month.

Wednesday’s poem is based on some sage advice, recounted in the first stanza.

Don’t feel flattered when a woman makes advances. She may just want someone to help kill her husband.

Don’t feel obligated when a man makes advances. He may just have a few days left to live.

Don’t feel superstitious when a woman murmurs behind you. She may just be laying a curse on your neighbor’s home.

Don’t feel doomed when a man approaches. He may just want to fill his walls with your smoking sage.

Don’t feel slighted when a woman turns away. She may just have somewhere to be.

Don’t feel gracious when a man turns you away. He may just not like what he sees.

For Thursday, here’s 22 one-liners. With thanks to Joe Brainard (and apologies for not making it the whole way to 30).

Human nature is ripping up trees.

A stick in the mud holds no weight.

Find your foundation by digging a bit deeper.

A house built on solid ground has tired feet.

Whatever you feel you must do, don't.

Leaves fall faster than flowers.

That which is difficult to catch is also easily dropped.

Some splinters are wood and some are glass.

One leaf moves in silence but a pile can call out your name.

An identification by any other name still terms a title.

Writing title-first never makes the best book.

Human nature is leafing through thick pages of a glossy magazine.

Paper can sometimes cut deeper than scissors.

Write down what others talk up.

Talking yourself in circles forms more trenches than ideas.

Drifting is for falling foliage and race cars.

If you find yourself back where you started, you're right on track.

Thirsty dogs run faster laps.

Life isn't easy or serene or peaceful, but forests are.

It will one day feel like home if you just keep rooting around.

There's always a secret small world in the last place you think to look.

Seek comfort before you need it, for you will need it.

Happy Thursday, everyone!!
